Woodcarving-X[ξ]YLO Wood Design Santorini

An invitation to an artistic time travel discovering the secrets of wood carving. The woodcarving workshop takes place in the gallery of Michael Arvanitis where he exhibits his works.

The gallery is a traditional cave building in the picturesque village of Megalochori. In this class Michalis Arvanitis will help you become familiar with how tools are used to give shape and form to wood and he will teach you how to carve.

Workshop no.1

• Brief historical review of the art of woodcarving.
• Theoretical reference to the treatment of wood from the beginning to the completion of a wood-carved object.
• Practice in the basic techniques of woodcarving art (under guidance) and creation of woodcarved objects.

Workshop no.2

• Brief historical review of the art of woodcarving.
• Theoretical reference to the treatment of wood from the beginning to the completion of a wood-carved object.
• Practice in the basic principles of woodcarving as well as the plasticity of wood.
• Creation of a three-dimensional woodcarved object inspired by the Ancient Theraic (Cycladic) Civilization.
