Full Description

Nestled on Agios Georgios Beach in Perivolos, Savvas Popeye Restaurant serves the tastes of Santorini’s sea and land in a picturesque beachfront setting loved by both locals and visitors. Every day, the family’s fishing caique brings in the fresh catch, while vegetables arrive from local farmers and carefully selected products come from trusted Greek producers.

The story of Savvas Popeye goes back to 1956, when Grandpa Haralambos opened the first tavern at Perissa Beach for local fishermen to rest and dine. In 1984, his son Savvas returned from years at sea and reintroduced the tavern, naming the family’s fishing caique “Popeye”. Today, the restaurant has moved to Perivolos and the third generation, chef and oenologist Spyros together with Popi, welcome you with the same passion and hospitality.

At Savvas Popeye you can expect fresh fish and seafood, traditional Santorinian dishes and creative flavours. The menu features the day’s catch, which you can choose directly from the fish display, alongside classics such as tomato fritters, Santorini fava and taramosalata, as well as ceviche, carpaccio, seafood pasta and options for meat lovers. Everything is prepared with respect for the ingredients and love for good food.

A love affair with Greek comfort food! We did it four times this week!!! By far the best food on the beach!!! Beautiful fresh ingredients, lovingly cooked with care and creativity. You’ll find half of the customers are locals who come for the authentic flavours. The other half tourists, most of them having eaten here many times before. The menu is 50% seafood (chefs kiss for the prawn linguine), with plenty for carnivores (the giant pork steaks are perfection), and also an good selection for vegetarians (the beetroot and walnut salad is a must). It’s all good!!!!!! Best of all is the lovely hospitality, a warm welcome alway awaits. When it comes to price, yes, you will find cheaper options along the beach serving up standard versions of the Greek classics. And you can certainly blow the budget at some of the more dressed up neighbouring establishments. Savvas Popeye delivers on its promises of ‘great Greek comfort food’ at very reasonable prices.

Incredible food and service. Better price to quality ratio than anything we had in Santorini. We had the very fresh red snapper and red mullet which were delightful to say the least. The waiters are knowledgeable and kind. The negroni was very good but could be better if it were served in a nicer glass with a clear cube of ice instead the regular ice-machine ice. But can't complain because it is 10 euros whereas it is 15 at any other location in Perivolos. P.S.: Make sure to try the Assyrtiko Rose by the glass. Awesome and cheap.

I know you see the phrase "Best food I've had in Greece" at least once in the reviews for just about every restaurant on the country. I'm telling you though, this is different. The place was jam packed, which we didn't expect since this was a recommendation from a local and it's far from the busy streets of Oia and Fira. Thankfully they found us a table for two. The waitress comes up and tells us that their fishing boat just delivered the fish and we can come see the options. We were like, "Sure" not really understanding. She then has us follow her to the back where she literally shows us like 15 different types fish that were JUST caught! There was amber jack, scorpion fish, red snapper, mackerel, and so many more I can't even remember. The one we chose was one I had never heard of (Sikiós, possibly) which the waitress said was "very local". It was the right size for both my wife and myself to share. The fish was served with olive oil and fresh baked vegetables and HOLY COW was it amazing! I really do try as hard as I can to not say things like this in restaurant reviews. You can see how many I've done in my profile. It's a lot. And I have never said this about fish. This is the best fish meal I've ever had in my life. I will be dreaming about it for months in my sleep. I'm so glad we came here, and the local woman who told us to do so is a national treasure. I seriously think this has ruined fish for me because nothing will ever compare. Aside from all that, everything else was also fantastic! We had the steamed mussels and a few drinks. It really was a great time. The staff was top notch and the ambiance was just as great. The view of the black sand beach was so fun and I will absolutely be back next time I'm in Santorini! Yammas!!

The best restaurant in Santorini! Delicious and authentic local food, extremely friendly and efficient staff and fair price for the quality you get. We had the fava puree, grilled mushrooms and a grouper for 2. And don't forget the frappe. Everything was superb!
